What You Need for Flamenco Dance Class!

Here is some information and tips to help you in your study of flamenco dance! Don’t hesitate to contact Lexi (lexi@reflejosflamencos.com) if you have any questions.

What should I bring to Flamenco dance class?

Women/girls should wear fitted top or leotard, full ankle-length skirt, flamenco or character shoes and bring a water bottle. Men/boys should wear a T-shirt, exercise pants, flamenco boots and bring a water bottle. Hair should be pulled back away from face.

What kind of shoes should I wear in dance class?

For Children or Beginners who are still deciding if they are going to stick with flamenco dance, black character shoes (Brands: Capezio (approx. $20-$60)) are very adequate substitutes for flamenco shoes. Black character shoes can be purchased online or at any local dance store.  Check out this link for a very affordable alternative to high end flamenco shoes: http://www.allaboutdance.com/Capezio-Flamenco-Character-Shoe-FLM10?sc=2&category=91

For Intermediate or Advanced Dancers, Semi-Professional or Professional Flamenco shoes (Brands: Gallardo, Menkes, Coral, among others (approx. $80-$200)) will be ideal. You will definitely be able to tell a difference in comfort, durability and the sound that the shoes can produce!

More Shoe Questions!

Q: How high is too high for flamenco shoe heels? A: I do not recommend heels higher than 2 inches which can cause back strain and stress on the ankles.

Q: Suede leather vs. Smooth leather shoes? A: Both are good. Suede is more comfortable to break in, but suede will also wear out faster than smooth leather.
